Court extends remand of former NBP vice president in embezzlement case

LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday extended the judicial remand of Usman Saeed, former vice-president, Foreign Exchange Department of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), involved in an embezzlement case, till July 26.

The court summoned two prosecution witnesses along with record on the next date of hearing.

The accountability court judge conducted the case proceedings wherein jail authorities produced the accused Usman Saeed on expiry of his remand term. However, during the proceedings on Friday, statement of any witness could not be recorded.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had been digging into the embezzlement worth billions of rupees allegedly being committed in Foreign Exchange Department of NBP, Lahore Branch. Whereas, during the course of investigations, involvement of vice-president, Foreign Exchange Department, was unearthed in which different private mega business groups were also known to be involved in the business of evading Letter of Credit (LC) amounts.
