Governor, PCJCCI discuss Pak-China trade relations

LAHORE:Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) delegation on Wednesday called on Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar to discuss the hurdles in promoting trade and investment relations between China and Pakistan as well as to formulate a special committee to facilitate the issues of foreign investors. PCJCCI President SM Naveed headed the delegation comprising Senior Vice President Daud Ahmed, Secretary General Salahuddin Hanif and the consultant of Sanmeng. Pvt. Limited. The Governor appreciated the efforts of PCJCCI in promoting bilateral trade between the two countries with transfer of modern technology into Pakistan.

He assured of taking up the PCJCCI proposals to the concerned federal and provincial departments for successful implementation of PCJCCI progressive plans to further strengthen Pakistan-China bilateral trade and investment relations. He also approved to formulate a special committee and platform to resolve the problems of foreign investors in the easiest possible way. During the meeting held here at Governor House, SM Naveed informed the Governor that his chamber aimed to address the problems of Chinese investors often arising due to the lack of investment facilities in Pakistan. “We become ineffective where government’s regulatory bodies are involved,” he added. He suggested to arrange training of the regulatory bodies’ officials to deal with the foreign investors.

While Daud Ahmed said that Sanmeng Tech Pvt. Limited was a company incorporated in Pakistan for manufacturing of mobile phones in financial year 2016. It had become one of the successful Chinese companies working in Pakistan but due to some corrupt officials of Customs Department, the Chinese investors were forced to stop production and decided to sell the factory two years back, he said and referred to the Chines Director of the Company Cai Xian as saying that Custom Department of treated foreign investors as a source of bribe and blackmails them by exploiting their discretionary powers. PCJCCI Secretary General Salahudin Hanif briefed about the PCJCCI efforts to Pak-China economic relations.
