PESHAWAR:The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started preparations for materializing proposed Mingora Greater Water Project and authorities concerned have been directed to address the issues including reservations and concerns of land owners.
An official of Planning Department told reporter that authorities concerned have been directed to consider genuine issues of land owners and stakeholders. He told that district administration of Malakand has also been directed to visit site being selected for the project and devise a workable plan after consulting elected representatives and locals.
He said that project would be completed on priority keeping in view the suggestions of locals. He said that project after completion would address the long standing issue of water shortage in Mingora City.
The project would be completed with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project (KPCIP). It would also include 20 kilometers long pipeline and a modern Water Treatment Plant.
He informed that under gravity based water project, 85 percent water would be supplied from pure gravity whereas 15 percent water would be provided through solar pumping. The project has been designed to fulfill requirements of the City for next 25 years.
He said that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also chaired a meeting wherein Mingora Greater Water Project was being discussed with officials of line departments.
The meeting also reviewed various aspects of proposed Fateh Pur irrigation channel’s Extension and Improvement Project that would provide additional 18 cusecs of water to irrigate around two thousand acres of land, he added.
The Chief Minister also directed completion of design and PC-1 of extension project and fulfill all prerequisites for launching civil work on improvement of already existing Fateh Pur irrigation channel, he informed.
