PESHAWAR:The Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RDD) Khyber Pakhtunkwha on Saturday issued instructions for setting up of sacrificial cattle markets, timely disposal of garbage and ensuring health, hygiene on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha ordering municipal authorities all over the province to ensure immediate implementation on it.
In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister for LG&RD Akbar Ayub Khan at LG Secretariat Peshawar in which Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed, Secretary Local Council Board Saleem Khan, Director General LG&RDD Khuda Bakhsh and officials of other concerned agencies participated.
On this occasion, the authorities were directed to start forthwith selection of locations at appropriate distances for cattle markets in all the cities and towns of the province.
The number of markets should be increased and the rush in them should be kept to a minimum. Ensure the presence of a veterinarian in every market to prevent the bringing of sick or emaciated cattle. Spray, night light, security, washroom, drinking water and cleaning facilities should be fully arranged.
Similarly, the concerned TMA should make arrangements for immediate removal of fossals of sacrificed animals during all three days of Eidul Azha and ensure cleaning of all areas including street and bazaars.
For this purpose, Eid holidays of municipal staff should also be cancelled while they must be neatly uniformed.
Similarly, water sprinkling and cleaning of highways in front of Eidgahs and mosques should be started one day in advance. Water Supply and Sanitation Companies (WSSCs) engaged in cleaning and drinking water services have to provide non-stop drinking facilities to the citizens.
The municipal authorities assured strict implementation of the instructions of the Provincial Minister and Secretary LG&RDD. They reiterated their commitment to work day and night alongside their staff during the three days of Eid-ul-Adha.
Akbar Ayub Khan clarified that the present PTI-led government believed in the policy of reward and punishment. Henceforth hard working and efficient municipal employees would be properly compensated and fully encouraged, he maintained.
He said that in our religion Islam, cleanliness has been given the status of half-faith and the municipal staff has to perform their duties diligently on Eid, that would raise awareness of cleanliness in the whole society, he concluded.
