PESHAWAR:Special Assistant to Chief Minister KP for Higher Education department (HED), Kamran khan Bangash has eulogized the dynamic role of the Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar for encouraging institutions in providing quality education in the field of allied health sciences.

He said this during signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here.

He acknowledged this is big step to maximizing enrollment for the undergraduate programs in nursing, nutrition, public health, paramedical and rehabilitation sciences

in order to cater the ever-increasing demand from public and private health sectors.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq VC KMU and Muhammad Daud Khan, Secretary HED KP on behalf of their respective organizations where as Special Assistant to CM KP for higher education and information Kamran Bangash and Registrar KMU Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Gandapur were also present on the occasion.

Kamran Bangash appreciated that the venture is aimed to promoting cost-sharing model and built on the strengths of both the parties.

He said the people of merged districts suffered a lot in the past and KP government was endeavouring to bring about positive changes in erstwhile FATA including the quality education and research facilities to inculcate their creative capabilities.

In order to streamline the use of resources, it is decided that HED and KMU may join hands to achieve shared objectives by entering into a joint collaborative effort through an MOU to further strengthen the allied health and nursing sciences.

In the MoU it is stated that students and bachelor hostels shall be handed over to KMU for the proposed allied health sciences and nursing institute and in future, first floor of the new academic block of GCMS Parachinar district Kurram shall be utilized on need basis by KMU for administrative and academic activities.

A committee consisting of four members, two from each party, shall look after all the matters as well as KMU shall establish computer lab, digital library and skill lab in the institute.

Meanwhile, the vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq said that the establishment of the institute of health sciences in Kurram district is inevitable given the lack of such an institution in the region, in both public and the private sector.

The proposed venture, keeping in view the current financial crunch and the resulting austerity measures by the provincial government, is the best solution to address the lack of a public sector institute in the merged tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.
