Murderer of Asma Rani gets death sentence

PESHAWAR:The Court of District and Sessions Judge here on Friday awarded the death sentence to the killer of Asma Rani, a student of medical college from Kohat and acquitted two others from the charges.

The District and Sessions Judge Peshawar, Afaq Khan while announcing a short order, awarded death penalty to the main accused, Mujahid Ullah Afridi and imposed a fine of Rs 0.3 million on him.

The court also acquitted two others including Sadiq Ullah and Shahzeb. The Friday’s special hearing took place inside the Central Jail Peshawar owing to the security situation.

Asma Rani, a student of medical college was shot dead near her home in Kohat when she refused to marry the accused, Mujahid Ullah Afridi in 2018. In her statement to police before the death, Asma Rani had accused Mujahid Ullah of firing at her.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had arrested the accused Mujaid Ullah Afridi from the United Arab Emirates through the Interpol.

The case was shifted to Peshawar on the directives of the Peshawar High Court.
