Accountability Bureau nabs contractor

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Accountability Bureau on Wednesday arrested a government contractor for corruption allegations in a contract for construction of a rest house at Tolipir, a picnic sport in district Poonch.

Sardar Mohammad Younas was presented before the accountability court in Mirpur which has granted physical remand of him. The accused was shifted to a safe house, said an official of the bureau.

According to a reference filed in accountability court by the bureau, a contract worth Rs 100 million was awarded to accused in 2009 to construct a rest house which was still incomplete and the accused managed to receive an amount of Rs 0.7 million from the national exchequer unlawfully.

The accountability bureau said they were in hunt to arrest other culprits nominated in the reference while another accused contractor was already in custody who carried out partial construction work on the project.
