CEO Health made OSD, 4 suspended over 3 girls’ death with vaccination

TOBA TEK SINGH:Provincial Minister for Primary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir has made CEO Health Toba Tek Singh Dr. Nawaz Ranjha as OSD in addition to suspending four other officials of the Health department on the charges of their alleged negligence in vaccination.

The suspended officers included Dr Masood Ahmad, Vaccination Supervisors Mohammad Arshad and Abdul Haleem, and Vaccinator Mohammad Sharif.

According to details, three minor girls – Hafza, Anaya and Umme Aiman – were allegedly killed whereas three children were hospitalized after vaccination against measles in Chak No. 262-GB Marthwala.

The measles’ vaccination was reportedly expired and its reaction caused the tragedy after which the villagers demonstrated against killing of their children and demanded action against the responsible.

Provincial Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir visited the area on Friday and went to the houses of the children. He condoled with their families and announced compensation of Rs 1 million each to the heirs of ill-fated Hafza, Anaya and Umme Aiman.

The Minister also visited the hospital and inquired about the health of victim children. He announced a financial help of Rs 200,000 for each victim and directed the hospital administration to provide them best treatment facilities.

The Minister also distributed cheques of financial assistances among legal heirs of the deceased and other victims.

Chairing a meeting at DC Office, the Minister said that a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and it has also been directed to submit its report at the earliest. Strict action will be taken against the responsible in light of the committee report, he added.

Special Secretary Health Punjab Faisal Zahoor, Director EPI Dr Muneer Ahmad and other officers of the Health department and local administration were also present.
