City traffic surviving with lack of signals at cross-sections

MULTAN: The traffic police has been struggling to ensure smooth traffic flow through cross-sections despite lack of traffic signals, however, officials believe more traffic signals will be installed soon to improve the situation.

Traffic signals are functional at SP Chowk, Eidgah Chowk and another point and the points where there are no signals usually face traffic muddle problem and situation becomes worse during office and school hours.

The cross-sections that usually witness traffic load included Chowk Kumharanwala, General Bus Stand, Chungi No. 9, Chungi No. 6, Bypass Chowk, Katchery Chowk, Clock Tower Chowk, Chowk Shah Abbas, Hussain Agahi, Bohar Gate, Daulat Gate, Haram Gate, Khooni Burj and MDA Chowk.

When contacted, Chief Traffic Police Officer Chaudhry Sharif Jutt told reporter, they are keeping the traffic flow smooth despite lack of traffic signals in the city.

He said, plan has been prepared to install traffic signals at around a dozen points and added that work on it will begin soon.

Another official said that traffic signals will be installed after the ongoing work for installation of CCTV cameras at cross-sections will conclude under the Safe City Project.
