CM to head monitoring committee, ensure expediting work on Circular Railway Project

PESHAWAR:Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that he would head monitoring and implementation committee to ensure expediting work on Circular Railway Project and other road communication related networks under CPEC.

He was presiding over a high level meeting at Chief Minister Secretariat Peshawar that among others was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Administrative secretaries and concerned officials.

The meeting focused phases of various projects under CPEC including circular railway train, inter-connectivity of six districts, Chashma Lift Irrigation Scheme, commercial rate fixation of University Town.

CM said that implementation and monitoring committee would see implementation process on projects and ensure that all the construction work should be of international standard. The committee would comprise representatives both from federal and provincial governments. He also directed to convene an extraordinary meeting of the committee next week.

He termed CPEC projects future of the region and said that both Pakistan and China were the guarantors of all the agreements. The Peshawar region mass transit circular railway project needed to be taken to next phase as KP would take it up in next JCC meeting in November.

Meeting also agreed that an expert committee would keep a vigil over circular railway track project. Under the project, 34.43 KM existing railway track between Peshawar and Nowshera, 23.3 KM from Nowshera to Mardan and 36.1 KM long railway track from Mardan to Charsadda would be upgraded. A new track of 30 KM long from Charsadda to Nowshera would be laid down.

Pervez Khattak directed up gradation of signaling system on existing railway track. Pak-Railway and Transport Department should prepare their own PC-I and finalize in consultation with P&D Department, he added. He said that Federal Minister for Railway had already agreed to the use of existing track for circular railway project.

Participants of meeting were told that Pakistan Railway had already constituted its technical committee while a core committee has also been notified by P&D department. A Chinese company was asked to open its office in Peshawar and after necessary requirements land acquisition process would be initiated, the meeting was further informed.
