SIALKOT: Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Nouman Ahmed Langrial has said that purchase of wheat crop directly from farmers was top priority of the government.
Addressing a meeting at Sialkot Deputy Commissioner’s office here after visiting several wheat procurement centres, he said the government was taking measures to facilitate wheat growers and eliminate the role of middlemen.
Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Bilal Haider, Sialkot ADC (Revenue) Sadia Mehar and local officials of agriculture and food departments were also present.
The minister directed the district administration to ensure issuance of gunny bags to wheat growers on merit in accordance to the government policy. He said the government was committed to protecting rights of wheat growers and curbing the role of middlemen.
Sialkot DC Dr Syed Bilal Haider told the meeting that the government would purchase 93,876 metric tones of wheat directly from farmers in Sialkot district. He said that Sialkot district administration has established 10 official wheat procurement centers in the district to facilitate farmers.
ADC (Revenue) Sadia Mehar told the meeting that the district administration of Sialkot will start issuance of gunny bags to growers in the district from April 22, 2019, as all arrangements had been made in this regard.
