FIA challenges ATC verdict in BB murder case

RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Friday challenged the verdict given by Anti Terrorist Court in Lahore High Court Rawalpindi in Benazir Bhutto murder case.

The agency had filed two appeals against the ATC verdict seeking capital punishment for two guilty policemen as well as the five others acquitted by ATC.

According to details, FIA had submitted two writ Petitions in LHC Bench against the verdict announced by ATC in BB Murder case. The first petition was against the punishment given to the Police Officers who were awarded 17 year imprisonment. FIA prayed that the Trial Court had not awarded complete punishment under the sections in murder cases.

In the second petition, FIA took the stance that five accused who were already arrested in the case had been acquitted by trial court.

The hearing of the two petitions would be held on October 2 by a Double Bench comprising Justice Tariq Abbasi and Justice Habib Ullah Amir.
