Health department equips EPI vaccinators with smart phones to ensure proper vaccination across the province

PESHAWAR: The Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tuesday equipped 3000

vaccinators of EPI (Extended Programme for Immunization) with smart phones to monitor their performance and to ensure proper vaccination in the province covering every child.

“The step has been taken to strengthened a well- coordinated mechanism to ensure efficient and timely monitoring of vaccinators across the province,” said Secretary Health, Mohammad Abid Majeed while speaking at MoU signing ceremony between EPI and Telenor Cellular company.

These smart phones will be linked to an online dash board, all the District Health Officers and EPI Coordinators; have access to and the performance of each and every vaccinator can be monitored online, said Dr. Abdul Hameed Afridi while briefing the participants of the ceremony.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Secretary Health Abid Majeed and other high ups of health department and Telenor representatives.

Secretary Health Abid Majeed while expressing views on this occasion said that provincial Government had created a number of posts of vaccinators adding that each union council of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had more vaccinators than the international standards.

The international standards of vaccinators for each Union Council is 1.5 while we have 2.5 which is far more than internationally set standards, he reiterated. Secretary Health said in KP the number of vaccinators with EPI is more than 3176 while the number of UCs are around 1063.

“We have already equipped our vaccinators with motorcycles but were looking for an innovative mechanism to keep a vigilant eye on all our field workers and thus introduced this on line monitoring through smart phones” Abid Majeed added.

He stressed that salary of the vaccinators should be linked with their performance and every vaccinator should get monthly salary and POL chargers on basis of his performance and area covered. He informed that if this experience turns into a success story, the same will be replicated for monitoring of doctors and other paramedics as well.

It needs to be mentioned that map is an interesting feature of this online monitoring, which will show the covered and missed out areas at the end of the month and the missed out areas will be kept on priority for the next round of immunization.

Besides the provincial dashboard, all the district health officers will have their respective online dashboards where from they will monitor the performance of their respective vaccinators.

The MoU was signed by Director EPI Dr. Abdul Hameed Afridi and Director Business to Business Telenor Atifa Asghar. The SIMs provided by Telenor will have a package of 4 GB internet Data, 300 minutes to all networks and 500 SMS.

Secretary Health Abid Majeed on this occasion also handed over the smart phones to District Health officers for further distribution amongst the vaccinators.
