PESHAWAR: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has launched Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Roadmap at a special ceremony attended by the representatives from Provincial and Federal Government, International Donors, NGOs, INGOs and Humanitarian Organizations.
Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs Division Islamabad, Secretary Finance Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Relief Rehabilitation & Settlement Department, Member Operations, NDMA and Director General, PDMA KP addressed the forum.
While talking to the forum Secretary, Relief Rehabilitation & Settlement Department said, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is prone to a number of hazards, both natural and human induced, and we must work with dedication and commitment to usher in a culture of safety and resilience to mitigate the risks and prepare for any potential disaster, for timely response to any kind of natural calamities.
He said, “I congratulate the team who put in a lot of effort, worked dedicatedly, carried out extensive Consultations and came up with this comprehensive document.” The document can be considered as one of major milestone in bridging the existing gaps among disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery and sustainable development.
Director General, PDMA briefed the forum in detail regarding DRM Roadmap 2014-19. He said any approach to bring in Development to the province and any effort for Stabilization and Governance will be unsuccessful without holistic approach to DRM.
He further added, the Roadmap 2014-19 presents a vision for safer and disaster resilient Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said, the Roadmap is broadly focused on eight thematic components, which are consistent with the National Disaster Management Plan and International Protocols like Hyogo Framework and Sendai Declaration.
He said, PDMA has recently established DRM Strategic Unit, which will work on risk assessment studies, surveys, capacity building and Advocacy. He further said, Provincial Disaster Management Authority also firmly intends to involve all stakeholders, particularly those organizations with extensive experience in DRM, in the implementation of this Roadmap.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary, Economic Affairs Division Islamabad said, EAD is fully supporting PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop linkages with International Donors and Partners for resource mobilization.
