Rescue 1122 to observe disaster awareness week

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Emergency Service (PES), Rescue-1122 will observe disaster awareness week in all districts of Punjab from Oct 2 to Oct 8 to conduct awareness activities, sensitize masses on resilience building, preparedness, anticipated hazards, threats and possible preventive measures to less the impact of potential risks.

According to a Rescue-1122 spokesman, Director General, PES, Dr. Rizwan Naseer has informed all District Emergency Officers (DEOs) that the government of Pakistan has declared October 8 as National Disaster Awareness Day and Rescue 1122 would observe Disaster Awareness Week in all districts of Punjab followed by observance of National Disaster Awareness Day with theme “Tayyar Pakistan” in true letter and spirit on Oct 8.

He said, on the directive of the DG, arrangements would be made for holding awareness walks, seminars in colleges, schools and universities, photo exhibitions highlighting rescue and relief efforts during emergencies and disasters, distribution of pamphlets with public service messages, talk shows, flag marches and rescue demonstrations by the rescuers involving Rescue Mohafiz in coordination with district administrations and other organizations.

Dr. Rizwan Naseer further said it is need of the hour to ensure safe construction and development of safer cities to avoid such potential disasters in future so all Community Safety Wings of Rescue 1122 in all districts of Punjab must share lesson learnt from the past tragedies and motivate youth and general public to join hands with Emergency Service for developing community resilience and promotion of safety culture in Pakistan.
