PESHAWAR: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) in the varsity.
The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor SBBWU, Dr. Razia Sultana and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SMEDA, Sher Ayub. The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Secretary Industries KP, Farah Hamid and General Manager Out-Reach (GMOR)/Provincial Chief, SMEDA, Javed Iqbal Khattak.
Under the agreement SMEDA will extend support to the University in taking initiatives for the Women Entrepreneurship Development in the University and will also cooperate in initiating any capacity building programs for the students of the university and full support to it for establishing the EDC at the campus.
The authority will also provide all information & data available with on its website to EDC in electronic format, establishing a formal liaison, with regular visits by a member of the Regional Office KP team, once a month for progress review of EDC in addition to coaching of students.
SMEDA will also provide ready-made modules for the training programs and also train some of the teachers in their use, technical assistance for the other initiatives, e.g. by developing models of entrepreneurship society, incubator, publications and facilitate the university in organizing different capacity building programs for SMEs of the province, including arranging events, with the aim of promoting the service providers and the EDC within the region, in collaboration with the EDC.
The authority will also facilitate the women university in establishing a networking facility for facilitating visits of technical experts to provide expert opinion or one to one mentoring to the new entrepreneurs, market linkages for the Entrepreneurs by organizing seminars, exposure visits for the entrepreneurs, donor linkages for facilitation of the Entrepreneurs, student placement and internship, help University in developing curricula of new programs to be launched by the University, market survey conduction for the new programs. However, it will not bear any financial responsibility in establishment and operations of EDC.
On the other hand the responsibilities of the university will be included to provide basic infrastructure and human resource for establishing and managing the EDC, construction of basic infrastructure for establishment of EDC and to bear all its expenses, keeping close liaison with SMEDA for smooth running of EDC and take it on board for any new developmental Initiative University including inviting to SMEDA in important EDC meetings, periodically review of progress and identify any possible change of course in the activities to be conducted at the EDC, helping SMEDA in public sharing and mainstreaming any lessons learnt at the EDC and organizing different capacity building programs for SMEs.
The MoU will be valid for a period of two years commencing from September 2017 till September 2019 and may be extended for a specific period with modifications with and may be terminated by either party while serving one month notice in case of any dispute arises between the parties.
