PESHAWAR:On the special directives of Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide relief to the common people, WatSan Cell, LG & RDD in collaboration with UNICEF, Plan International Pakistan, Penny Appeal, Care International and WASH Sector Partners is commemorating a special sanitation monthly campaign from 15th October to 19th November.
The aim of this campaign to increase awareness and understanding among people about the importance of safe water, sanitation and hygiene across the province. During the month-long campaign various activities will be organized at provincial and district level such as provincial conference on sanitation, debate competitions at school and university level, stalls’ competition, capacity building workshops for concerned staff, awareness walks etc.
Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Peshawar and University of Engineering & Technology Peshawar will also support the government in organizing debate competitions on the topics such as clean drinking water supply, hazards of impure drinking water for public health, sanitation and community hygiene at district as well as provincial level. Special sanitation monthly campaign will conclude on 19th November which is also the ‘World’s Toilet Day’ and a ceremony
will be held to give awards, shields and certificates to the winners and runners up of debate competitions of schools and universities, stalls competitions, skits etc. In addition to best services of government employees and WASH partners in the field of water and sanitation will be rewarded on the same day.
The Senior Minister Local Govt., Secretary Local Govt and Secretary Local Council Board directed all tehsil/town municipal officers and WSSCs to commemorate the month with full zeal and interest in their respective jurisdictions.
They further advised that special cleanliness campaigns should be carried out to spread the message as widely as possible.
The Senior Minister LG also held special meeting with the CEOs of WSSCs and TMOs of the divisional HQ TMAs of KP and passed directives for providing efficient municipal services to the citizens.
