Work on Asia’s biggest tanneries zone accelerated: SCCI president

SIALKOT: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Majid Raza Bhutta has said that the SCCI was making efforts for dealing with the threats posed by tanneries functioning in and around the city.

Talking to reporter, he said on Friday that in order to cope with the pollution, Sialkot Tanneries Zone was being established with the active support of the Punjab government.

He said that efforts were being made for early completion of the biggest tanneries zone in Asia, adding that development on this mega project was under way at a fast pace.

The federal government had approved Rs 400 million, out of Export Development Fund (EDF), for the construction of the Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Sialkot Tanneries Zone. He said that work on the construction of drains and culverts to channelise the polluted water would soon be started with Rs 485 million.
