Youm-e-Ashura peacefully observed in KP, FATA amid tight security arrangements

PESHAWAR: The Central ‘Alm and Zuljinah’ processions taken out from almost 70 Imambargahs in the city to commemorate the martyrdom of Shuhada-e-Karbala for their matchless sacrifice for supremacy of Islam, were peacefully culminated after passing on their traditional routes here Sunday evening amid tight security arrangements.

‘Sham-e-Ghariban’ was also held at Imambargahs after the mourning processions.

In Peshawar, small and big processions appeared from Imambargahs Akhunabad, Agha Syed Mir Haider Shah, Haji Rahman Malik, Alamdar-e-Karbala, Syed Mustafa Shah Rizvi, Syed Ali Qami, Qadeemi Patharwala, Bahar Ali Kayani, Puran Wali and Mai Malangri that later joined the main procession Agha Syed Alam Shah and passed through different routes and peacefully culminated at their respective places.

The Muharram processions were also brought out from Imambargah Hussainia Hall, Garhi Saidan, Hussainabad Tehkhaney Wala, Aal Saadat and Imambargah Faiz Panjtan. The mourners, while beating their chests and flagellating themselves with chains, paid glowing tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions for their indomitable courage and sacrifice for a true cause.

The speakers threw light on the sacrifices of Karbala’s martyrs.

Strict security arrangements were made along the procession routes. The city and cantonment areas were completely sealed and the mobile services were suspended.

Heavy contingents of police, Quick Response Force, Elite force and Frontier Constabulary besides volunteers were deployed for security of the processions.

The police force led by CCPO Mohammad Tahir Khan escorted the main procession in Peshawar and monitored the security arrangements on ground.

Big congregation and processions were seen at DI Khan, Kohat, Hangu, Nowshera, Peshawar, Haripur, Manshera, Parachinar, Kuram Agency, Orakzai Agency and others districts and agencies of KP and Fata and were peacefully culminated at their respective places after passing through designated routes. There were water and milk ‘sabeels’ on both sides of the procession’s way for facilitation of people.

Shah Farman, Advisor to CM for Information told media men that about 7,000 policemen were deployed in Peshawar and 30,000 policemen in other districts for security of Muharram processions besides maintaining law and order.

The Minister said Frontier Corps and Army were put on standby position.

Emergency in all government hospitals were imposed while vacations of staff were cancelled.

He lauded the security arrangements of law enforcement agencies and police that helped peaceful observance of Muharram processions.
