AJK govt committed to complete rehabilitation projects in earthquake-hit areas: Nisar khan

MIRPUR (AJK):Acting Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Nisar Ahmed Khan Sunday said the AJK government was committed to complete the rehabilitation and reconstruction projects for the victims of October 8, 2005 earthquake.

Speaking at a ceremony here at the University Ground held under the aegis of State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to mark the 12th anniversary of the deadly earthquake, Nisar Ahmed said, ”SDMA will be strengthened to meet natural disasters.”

He said if buildings were made according to the prescribed building codes then the intensity of losses could be minimized.

Raja Nisar admired the role of Government of Pakistan, Pakistan Army, national and international non-governmental organizations, Muslim countries and people of the country for providing aid and support in rehabilitation of the earthquake people.

He said it was the one of the largest rescue operations in human history. He reiterated that Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) should provide funds for the completion of their projects in the state, especially educational institutions. He also appreciated the work of ERRA and Nespak for fulfilling their responsibilities of rehabilitation.

Nisar also attended the inauguration ceremony of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Gojra held under the aegis of State Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (SERRA).

Minister for Education Barrister Iftikhar Gillani, Minister for Social Welfare Mrs. Noreen Arif, Member Legislative Assembly Mrs Faiza Ahsan, Deputy Chairman ERRA Brigadier Abu Bakar Ameen Bajwa, Secretary Finance Farid Tarrar, , Army officials, Secretary SDMA Zaheer ud Din Qureshi, Secretary SERRA Sardar Farooq Tabassum, secretaries of different departments, and other officials attended the ceremony.

Raja Nisar Ahmed Khan said ERRA was reconstructing the remaining projects with a vision of ‘Build Back Better” in collaboration with the United Nations and the people would be facilitated on their completion.

He said despite atrocities being committed by the Indian occupied forces along the Line of Control, the AJK government was using available resources for the betterment of the people living along the LoC.
