ISLAMABAD: The government has acquired 250 acres of land for the construction of Moqpondass Special Economic Zone in Gilgit.
According to officials sources, the government has started preparing feasibility report for the construction of the Special Economic Zone in Gilgit Baltistan.
The zone is part of mega project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under which the government has decided to construct nine SEZs in all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan to promote trade, and commerce in the country.
In Moqpondass industrial zone, the government has planned to install industries relating to various sectors including marble, granite, iron ore processing, fruit processing, steel industry, mineral processing unit and leather industry.
The zone site is about 35 kilometer away from Gilgit Airport while it is 160 kilometer away from Skardu airport. Similarly the site is locate on Gilgit-Skardu Road which is at a distance of four kilometer from CPEC rout.
