LAHORE: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has counseled the ruling party to unconditionally surrender to the process of accountability and normalize its relationship with the institutions as any extra constitutional step would not benefit any side.
He was addressing the organizers of the JI Azme Nau Convention being held here on October 22.
He said that while the country was confronted with threats and crises on all sides, there was internal disunity and the political parties were pitted against one another. He said that the government itself had opted the path of confrontation with the institutions.
Liaqat Baloch said it was the collective responsibility of all sides to protect the constitution and the democratic system, However, he said, the government and the rulers demanding others to remain within their limits should itself see reason and not victimize the masses and the system because of the disqualification of its leadership and its own failures.
He noted that all the religious and political parties had developed consensus on the National Action Plan and the responsibility was entrusted to the armed forces and the security institutions. Therefore, he said, it was the right of the military leadership to comment on the deteriorating economy of the country.
He said that the country was facing embarrassment at the international level as the government was unwilling to remove the Finance Minister in spite of his being charge-sheeted by the Accountability court.
He urged the ruling party to correct its affairs instead of trying to hide its failures and added that the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the former Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, who were ruling party’s own men, had been repeatedly talking of that.
