People demand repair of govt’s houses in capital

ISLAMABAD: The government employees in federal Capital on Wednesday urged the authorities to take immediate steps for maintenance of their officially allotted accommodations.

The houses are constructed long ago and due to lack of proper maintenance the depleting conditions of these residential units are creating a number of problems for the residents.

“Our applications should be considered on priority, as sewage, leakage at roofs, broken floors and other problems have made our life a hell,” said Mohsin Iftikhar a government employee.

Talking to reporter he complained that he had submitted application for the repair work two years back but still waiting for any response on it.

“The concerned departments turned a deaf ear on our genuine issues taking the lame excuses of lack of funds and other official matter,” he added.

When contacted to a Capital Development Authority official, he claimed that lack of funds and non-availability of contractors is major hinderance to execute maintenance work.

The authority, he said, utilized the amount from its own exchequer as the grant released by the government for the maintenance of government buildings was insufficient and all employees will have to wait for their turn.

Many of applications have been pending for long and that budget constraints do not allow the civic agency to entertain all applications, he added.
