51241 cases registered regarding VAW from January 2011 to June this year

ISLAMABAD:As many as 51,241 cases were registered regarding Violence Against Women (VAW) from January 2011 to June 2017 with highest number of 15461 cases of domestic violence followed by 14579 cases of other nature.

According to the official data of police, 8418 cases were reported in year 2011, 8845 cases in 2012, 7573 in 2013, 7741 in 2014, 6527 in 2015, 8031 in 2016 and 4066 during first six months of the current year.

The reported crimes included domestic violence, honor killing, burning, sexual assault, harassment at workplace and other crimes, official documents available to reporter revealed.

During the said period total domestic violence cases were 15461, including 8051 cases of murder, 4865 of beating and 2545 cases of other violence.

In 2011, domestic violence cases including murder, beating and others were 1248, 749 and 387 respectively, while in 2012, 1559, 891 and 387 respectively followed by 1373, 675 and 413 in 2013, while in 2014 it remained 1109, 653 and 325, in 2015, 836, 676 and 309, in 2016 1320, 914 and 361

followed by 606, 307 and 427 respectively in the first six months of the current year.

The reported cases of honor killing during this time span were 2532 including 477 in 2011, 424 in 2012, 470 in 2013, 326 in 2014, 320 in 2015, 355 in 2016 and 160 in first six months of this year.

Cases of burning including acid and stove during this time period were 198 including 163 acid and 35 reported stove cases. 50 cases of vani were reported during this duration, while sexual assault cases were 17448.

Besides that 1011 cases of harassment at work place were reported including 675 cases of physical, 313 cases of sexual and three cases psychological harassment where 14579 cases other cases related to violence against women were reported during the above mentioned period.
