72 foreign journalists to attend sports congress in Islamabad

ASHGABAT (Turkmenistan): With the collaboration of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pakistan Sports Writers Federation would hold a special session of the AIPS ASIA Sports Journalists Congress-2017 in Islamabad from October 6-8.

It is for the first time that around 72 journalists from 35 countries of the world would participate in the prestigious congress.

The congress will elect the new office-bearers of the continental wing of Association of International Press Sports (AIPS).

Most of the journalists coming to Pakistan are actually part of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games – that concluded in Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan – are very enthusiastic to visit Islamabad.

This snap activity of the continental body has been warranted by its decisive moves taken earlier in February at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. To get its decisions materialized, the AIPS ASIA Congress of the time had constituted a five-member committee.

As per recommendations of the committee comprising Salim Al Habsi of Oman, Saba Nayakan of India, Attef Rashid of Jordan, Rashid Nasar of Lebanon and Mustafa Mamun of Bangladesh, the congress is all set to take place in accordance with the prescribed schedule and to have new office-bearers of AIPS ASIA on October 6.

There were two invitations to become host to this congress, however, finally Pakistan was selected as the venue and it is going to welcome the delegates coming from around the world.

Amjad Aziz Malik, President of Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF) had taken the privilege to extend the invitation on behalf of his country.

It merits a mention here that Amjad Aziz Malik is the Executive Committee member of AIPS; the honor which he has retained for the second consecutive time during the recently held AIPS Congress in Korea, besides being the ex-Secretary General of AIPS ASIA.

Although there had been a couple of major activities including the conduct of a meeting of Executive Committee of AIPS ASIA at Lahore in 2014, however, this is the first time in the history of Pakistan to be host to an election congress of the body.

This is also worth mentioning that Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Heritage, especially State Minister Marriyum Aurnagzaib is giving all support to the organizers to send a message of peace and friendship to all over the world.

The organizers are expecting delegates from 35 members countries while President AIPS Gianni Merlo (Itlay), First Vice President Esat Yilmaer and Vice President Hungarian Sports Journalists Association Dr. Zsuzsa will also grace the occasion. Besides journalists from around the world, 150 sports journalists associated with electronic, print and broadcasting will be part of the congress.

Talking to reporter, Amjad Aziz Malik thanked Minister of State Marriyum Aurnagzaib and all those who extended support to Pakistan Sports Writers Federation for holding such congress in Pakistan.

He said holding of this congress would help highlight the soft and true image of Pakistan to the world.

He said preparations in that connection had already been completed and committees for welcoming the journalists had been constituted.

He said through these foreign delegates we want to give a message to the world that Pakistan had suffered a lot in the fight against militants and peace had been restored.
