ISLAMABAD: A special session of International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Congress- 2017 will commence here at local hotel on Friday.
The two-day event is being organized by Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF) in collaboration with Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.
The congress will elect new office-bearers of the continental wing of AIPS, a PSWF spokesman said on Thursday.
He said around 60 delegates from Asia’s 30 countries would attend the congress. The snap activity of the continental body has been warranted by its decisive moves taken in February, this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
To get its decisions materialized, the AIPS ASIA Congress of the time had constituted a five-member committee comprising Salim Al Habsi of Oman, Saba Nayakanof India, Attef Rashid of Jordan, Rashid Nasar of Lebanon and Mustafa Mamun of Bangladesh.
It merits a mention here that there were two invitations to become host to the Congress. However; finally Pakistan was chosen as the venue. President PSWF Amjad Aziz Malik had extended the invitation on behalf of Pakistan. Amjad, is also the executive committee member of AIPS besides being the former Secretary General of AIPS ASIA.
There had been a couple of major activities including conduct of a meeting of Executive Committee of AIPS ASIA in Lahore in 2014. But this is the first time in the history that Pakistan is hosting an election congress of the body.
Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Heritage, especially State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurnagzeb is extending full support to the organizers to hold the congress in a befitting manner. The successful holding of the event would send a message of peace and friendship to all over the world.
