ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr Darshan Wednesday said the past-practice of inducting blue eyed players in national cricket team had affected performance of the team and brought down its position in international ranking.
During the question-answer session of the National Assembly, he said the present government believed in merit and transparency, and it promoted the sports of cricket at grassroots level.
“The strategy yielded the required results, and now performance of the national teams is improving gradually,” he said.
He apprised the House that currently Pakistan’s Test and One Day teams were at number six position, while the T20 squad was at number 2 in the international ranking.
Dr Darshan said Pakistan’s door had opened for international cricket with arrival of World XI team, adding that some matches of Pakistan Premier League had also been planned for Karachi, while cricket-lovers would see Sri Lankan players in action in Pakistan soon.
