Chairman CDA appointment matter: IHC reserves verdict

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday reserved judgment in plea challenging appointment of Mayor Islamabad, Sheikh Anser Aziz as acting Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA).

A single judge bench of Justice Athar Minallah reserved verdict after completion of arguments of the litigants in a plea moved by Farrukh Nawaz Bhatti through his counsel Husnain Ibrahim Kazmi.

Kashif Abbassi, counsel for CDA argued before the bench that Mayor Islamabad could be ex-officio chairman CDA according to the rules of Authority.

Tariq Jahangiri counsel for Sheikh Anser Aziz informed the court that appointment of the CDA chairman was done by following due process of law and not by-passing any CDA by-laws.

Tariq Jhangiri informed the court that government had followed all legal procedures in the appointment process of Mayor Islamabad as acting chairman CDA.

He said there was no law that restricted the appointment of Mayor Islamabad as acting chairman of the CDA. Aziz could hold the post of CDA chairman in accordance with law, he added.

He argued that appointment of Chairman CDA was prerogative of the federal government and it was entertained by the government with due process of law.
