ISLAMABAD:The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday reserved
its decision in the reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ayesha Gulalai, seeking cancellation of her membership from the National Assembly.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Mohammad Raza heard the case, filed by the PTI against her disqualification.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s counsel Sikander Mohmand requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to denotify Gulalai from the seat of National Assembly.
He said that Gulalai announced to leave the party and then backtracked from her statement.
He said that Gulalai does not need to present a written resignation to leave the party.
According to the party constitution, no fixed method is present for resigning and that the party chief can suspend any member, Imran’s counsel told ECP on inquiring the adequate procedure for leaving the party.
He said that the disciplinary action against Gulalai was stopped when she resigned from the party, but she later deviated from her statement.
Ayesha Gulalai’s lawyer rejected all the accusations levelled against her client.
