Educational institutions play an important role in socio-economic development: President

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that universities and other educational institutions play an important role in the economic development of the country.

Moreover, he stated that they have an added responsibility with regard to human resource development which play a fundamental part in strengthening the socio-economic structure of the country.

The President said this while talking to the Chancellor of Riphah International University Mr. Hasan Mohammad Khan and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Friday.

The President expressed his satisfaction that the standards of higher education in Pakistan have improved during the last few years and institutions like Riphah International University have played a commendable role in this respect. He further underlined that a lot still needs to be done to come at par with the international standards of higher education. He added that the Government is taking all possible measures in this regard.

The President stated that as women are around half of the population of our country therefore emphasis should be laid on both their secondary and higher education. He appreciated the establishment of Women Institute of Science and Humanities at Riphah International University. He highlighted that such dedicated campuses for the women are a significant development in providing quality education to them as well as improving the quality of our human resource.

Chancellor Hasan Mohammad Khan also briefed the President about ongoing and future projects of the university. The President assured him of his continued support in this regard. The Chancellor also extended an invitation to the President to inaugurate a charity hospital established by the university.
