Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif re-elected president of PML (N)

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been reelected unopposed the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

This was announced by party’s Chief Election Commissioner Chaudhary Jaffer Iqbal at the meeting of PML (N)’s Central General Council at the convention center in Islamabad Tuesday.

No other candidate filed nomination papers for the slot of the president. Nawaz Sharif has been elected for four years.

Addressing the meeting of PML (N)’s Central General Council, newly elected party President Nawaz Sharif thanked the party workers for reposing confidence in him once again.

After the election, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disposed of the PML-N president case and restored the party’s electoral symbol of lion.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated the parliamentarians for passing the law that abolished the amendment introduced by Dictator Parvez Musharraf to block his way into politics. He said PML (N) is still the largest and the most popular party in the country.

The PML (N) President said that his party wants to take the country forward by empowering the youth. He proposed a Grand National dialogue amongst the political parties to strengthen democracy and ensure rule of law in the country.

Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan of today is much better than it was in 2013.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqqan Abbassi felicitated Nawaz Sharif for his re-election as the party President. He said we implemented 28th July decision in Panama Papers case but it has not been accepted by the people.

The Prime Minister said the next general elections will be held after June next year and expressed the confidence that the people will again give mandate to the PML (N). He said the projects initiated by the former prime minister will be completed in the next eight months. He said Nawaz Sharif completed unprecedented number of development projects in the last four years and the people today are genuinely feeling difference in their lives.

The Prime Minister said that his party will continue to serve the country and address the problems faced by it.

Earlier, in his address Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, the party has always and will continue following the golden principles laid down by Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah so that the country can become a prosperous and stable economy.

Referring to the opposition by PPP to the amendment in the draft Election Bill, 2017 passed by the National Assembly yesterday, Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians deflected the very vision of its leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He said the Supreme Court of Pakistan is the custodian of sanctity and dignity of law in the country.

Ahsan Iqbal said under the leadership of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi we are working day and night to complete the ongoing development projects before the completion of our term.
