Frisking, search operations ahead of Indian Republic Day denounced

ISLAMABAD:Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum has strongly denounced the massive frisking and search operations in run up to January 26, the Indian Republic Day, saying this has resulted in endless hardships for the general public as the entire territory has been converted into a military fortress.

According to reporter, the Hurriyat forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said every year January 26 adds to the miseries of the people of Kashmir as search operations are intensified, people especially the youth harassed, roads blocked, vehicles checked and people asked to prove their identity every 100 meters.

He also paid glowing tributes to the three youth recently martyred by the Indian troops at Binner village of Baramulla and said the sacrifices rendered by the youth have once again clarified that the Kashmiri people are engaged in a sacred struggle to free their territory from the forcible control.

He said Kashmir’s young lot is being pushed to wall through ultimate oppression. He said that Kashmir dispute was purely political in nature and the dispute could be resolved by means of sustained dialogue with all the stakeholders, but the intransigence and military approach of the Indian government had always impeded the way towards this end.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Hurriyat forum comprising Musaddiq Aadil, Abdul Majeed Wani, Ghulam Nabi Najar and Jaffar Kashmiri visited Baramulla to meet senior Hurriyat leader Khan Sopori. The delegation welcomed the release of Sopori and demanded unconditional release of all the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails of India and the territory.

The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Muzahamat, Bilal Ahmed Sidiqui, and the Chairman of Islami Tanzeem Azadi, Abdul Samad Inqilabi, in their statements in Srinagar said to celebrate Indian Republic Day, authorities have launched a military operation to make these celebrations a success.

They said spree of crackdowns, arrests, raids and restrictions on public movement and all other repressive and oppressive measures are being employed to create an environment of fear to make this self-styled democracy drama a success.
