HEC Women cricket championship to start on Friday

ISLAMABAD:The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is organizing 14th All Pakistan HEC

Inter-varsity Women Cricket Championship from March 22 to 26, here at Shalimar Cricket Ground.

As many as 22 universities are participating in this Championship, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

The opening ceremony of the event will be held at Shalimar Cricket Ground on Friday.

Among others, the ceremony will be attended by Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Dr. Tariq Banuri, Chairman HEC/Pakistan University Sports Board, Lt. Gen (R) Mohammad Asghar, Executive Director HEC and Sheikh Anser Aziz, Mayor Islamabad.

The former test cricketer, Shahid Aslam, who is currently Sr. General Manager Women Cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and many other national stars will join the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the meeting of team managers will be held on Thursday at Pakistan Youth Hostel, Islamabad for orientation of game rules as per international standards by technical officials of PCB, checking of documents to determine eligibility of student players as per HEC/PUSB Intervarsity Championship rules and draws of Championship.

It is worth-mentioning here that alongside various other initiatives for development of higher education sector in the country, HEC is also focusing to create opportunities for mental and physical development of university students.

Every year, HEC organizes 35 Men and 25 Women sports championships in HEC recognized universities across the country.
