Mobile phones being used in 93% areas for meter-reading: Abid

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali Wednesday informed the National Assembly that mobile phones were being used in 93 percent areas of various DISCOs for meter-reading to avoid complaints of excessive billing.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice regarding absence of pictorial meter reading and service of overbilling to the consumer of electricity for feeders of Warask-I, II Gull Bela, Nagman and Haryana in Peshawar, he said the process to introduce mobile phone meter-reading would be completed by November 15 in the areas identified by the lawmakers.

He said 70 percent of Peshawar Electric Supply Company was also being covered through mobile billing.

He apprised the House that about 350 employees had been sacked over the issue overbilling electricity companies across the country.

He said due to effective policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, power supply was improving day by day.

He said load-shedding duration had been reduced to 2 to 3 hours from 18 hours.

He said the PML-N government was fulfilling its commitments made with the public and it succeeded to overcome of electricity load-shedding.

He also invited parliamentarians of the KPK and Sindh for a meeting to remove their grievances and reservations.
