Murtaza Abbasi directs to ensure presence of ministers, state ministers

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Wednesday asked Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Ahmed Sheikh to ensure presence of ministers, state ministers and parliamentary secretaries during National Assembly session.

Responding to points raised by leader of the opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah and Dr Nafeesa Shah, the Deputy Speaker said ministers and state ministers remained not present in the session to respond important parliamentary interventions.

Aftab Ahmad Sheikh said it was responsibility of the ministers to attend proceeding of the house because public has given them mandate to represent them.

He said public seeks relief from the parliament and it was collective responsibility to accomplish it and asked the chair to adjourn the proceeding as suggested by the leader of the opposition.

Earlier PPP MNA Dr Nafeesa Shah also complained about the absence of key members from treasury benches including the ministers.

She said that parliamentarians have raised important issues through point of orders but no one except the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs is there to respond.

Later the Deputy Speaker adjourned the session to meet again on Thursday at 1030 hours.
