Peace, dialogue pre-requisites for prosperous societies: Dr. Masoom

ISLAMABAD: Peace and dialogue were pre-requisites to keep societies prosperous, developed and full of values in this age of globalization, said Dr. Masoom Yasinzai on Wednesday.

He was addressing a closing ceremony of an international conference on “Local Cities, Foreign Capitals: Finding the Local Anchor in the Global Cultures” at International Islamic University. The three day multi-disciplinary conference was a joint venture of the Departments of English, Politics & IR at IIUI and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, USA, as part of the US Department of State’s University Partners Grant Program.   It is the second in a series of such conferences after the first one was hosted by UNCW in May 2016.

Promotion of mutual dialogue and dissemination of among societies were “must do” initiatives, IIUI Rector added. He furthered that universities were the ultimate platforms to disseminat peace, values and humanity across the globe.  He maintained that Islam was a religion of peace which had no place for terrorism. “ IIUI, as per Islam’s message of peace and tranquility keen to have joint ventures with other universities” Dr. Masoom told.

The closing ceremony was also addressed and joined by Dr. Caroline Clements, UNCW,USA, Dr. Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Dean Faculty of Languages and Literature, Dr. Amna Mehmood , Chairperson Department of Politics and IR, Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Chairman Department of English, Dr. Manzoor Afriadi , Head of Department, Politics and IR, IIUI, Deans, Directors and, faculty members other high ups of the university.

More than a hundred papers were presented by researchers from various countries on issues as diverse as globalization, Diaspora Studies, Religious Identities, global politics, world literature, linguistics and many more. The conference also addressed the myriad and seminal forms of impact that globalization has had and continues to exert on the many facets of religion, politics, society and culture in the world.
