ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed Rs 1 million fine on Geo News for levelling institutional corruption allegations against Armed Forces of Pakistan in its programme “Aapas Ki Baat” earlier this year.
PEMRA in its 134th meeting here approved recommendations of Councils of Complaints (CoCs) Karachi and Lahore of imposing the fine on Geo TV for airing allegations against Armed Forces of Pakistan.
The Authority on the recommendations of the Personal Hearing Committee also suspended for seven days landing rights permission to the private TV channel “Starlite” for airing obscene and vulgar content on June 13, 2017.
The Authority also decided to award the F.M Radio licenses to M/s Independent Newspaper Corporation Pvt after examining its tax record.
A proposal of Re 1 increase in Cable TV subscription fee for each subscriber per month was also approved in the Authority meeting.
The meeting was attended by Member Sindh, Sarfaraz Khan Jatoi, Member Punjab, Ms Nargis Nasir, Member KP, Ms Shaheen Habibullah, Federal Interior Secretary Arshad Mirza, Federal Information Secretary Ahmed Nawaz Khan Sukhera, Chairman FBR, Tariq Mehmood Pasha and PTA Chairman Dr Ismail Shah. PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam presided over the meeting.
