PEMRA issues show cause notice to Dawn News TV

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friay issued a show cause notice to Dawn News Television for telecast of irresponsible remarks about a judge of the superior court during its programme “Newseye” on Nov 22.

The notice said the comments given by a political party leader Salman Baloch were unprofessional and an effort to create doubts about a judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

By telecast of these defamatory comments, the channel has violated the Articles 19 and 204 of the Constitution, PEMRA Act 2007, PEMRA rules 2009 and the code of conduct of the electronic media implemented on Supreme Court directives.

The management of Dawn News has been given 7 days to respond to the notice, otherwise unilateral action would be taken.

PEMRA has the right to ban the programme or impose Rs 1 million fine on the said channel or even suspend its license.
