Railways ministry lauds working of NLC

ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Ministry of Railways Perveen Agha Thursday appreciated the working of National Logistic Cell (NLC) especially for supporting Pakistan Railways (PR).

During the meeting with Brig. Bashir ,Director NEFT, NLC, she invited NLC to commercialize their maintenance facility in Karachi for PR, as a result Brig. Bashir agreed to check the feasibility of commercialization.

He advised that trackers can be fixed in PR locomotives to check the movement of trains, according to a press release issued here.

She also decided that NLC will assist Pakistan Freight Transportation Company to diversify itself for Public Private Partnership.

Updating on restoration of Sibi Harnai Section, in Balochistan, the meeting was informed that both passenger and freight trains will resume operation on the track soon.

The rail track amid Sibi and Harnai was laid by the British in 1884, touching Nakas, Shahrigh Khost and Zhob.

There have been eight railway stations on the section and at least 133 kilometers track required reintegration.

The meeting was informed that militants had in 2007-8 demolished five big and three small bridges between Sibi and Khost, forcing deferral of all kinds of rail provision on the section.
