SC summons Chief Secretary, IGP, Secretary Mines Punjab in stone crushing case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Secretary Mines Punjab over a suo moto notice case regarding cutting of trees and stone crushing in the province.

A division bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, the court observed that there was a contradiction in reports submitted by two departments of Punjab. The court also issued notice to WWF Islamabad office for assistance over the matter.

The counsel for Punjab Government informed the court that blasting had been stopped in mountains.

The petitioner informed the court that blasting continued in mountains as earlier it was done in daylight and now they were blasting mountains in night.

Justice Sajjad Ali Shah remarked that according to report departments were working to stop blasting.

Justice Azmat Saeed observed that one department claimed that blasting had been stopped while the other department had stated that blasting was continue.

Later, the court summoned Chief Secretary, IGP and Secretary Mines and adjourned hearing of the case till October 18.
