Supreme Court forms five benches for next week

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday constituted five benches to hear a number of important cases during the next week starting from Monday (September 25).

According to the cause list, the first bench comprising the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Umer Ata Bandial and Justice Faisal Arab would hear the cases including Hanif Abbasi petition against Imran Khan and Jehangir Khan Tareen over offshore companies, Evacuee Trust Property cases, Income Tax matters, contempt of court cases against Syed Tahir Shahbaz, Secretary, Establishment Division and Badar Zaman v. The Federation of Pakistan thr. Secretary, Establishment and others regarding Proceedings under the protection against harrassment of women at work place.

The second bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan would hear cases including Mohammad Usman Qayyum v. Federation of Pakistan regarding suspension of proceedings pending before the Lahore High Court and Central Judge, Special Court Islamabad regarding FIR Nos. 14/2013 and 4/2016 registered with FIA and Engineer Mohammad Usman Qayyum v. Federation of Pakistan regarding Quashment of FIR No. 16/2016 registered with Anti Corruption Establishment, Lahore, while the third bench comprised of Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel.

The fourth bench comprised of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and the fifth bench comprised of Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Mohammad Khan.

From Thursday (September 28) the formation of second bench would change and would commprise of Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Mohammad Khan while the third bench would comprise of Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan.

The fourth bench would comprised of Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel while the fifth bench would be comprised of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah.

During the next week, the benches will also take up different criminal, civil cases and suo moto notices, NAB/Ehtesaab cases.

According to the cause lists, no adjournment on any ground will be granted and no application for adjournment through fax will be placed before the Court. Furthermore, if the counsel is unable to appear for any reason, the Advocate-on-Record will be required to argue the case.
