ISLAMABAD: The World Tourism Day (WTD) was marked here on Wednesday to highlight the importance of tourism for socio-economic development.
It aimed at fostering awareness among the international community of tourism importance and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
Events were held to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to highlight the contribution tourism sector could render in roping in those goals.
Talking to reporter, Managing Director PTDC Abdul Ghafoor said, “Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has organized a one-day seminar and photographic exhibition in connection with World Tourism Day.”
He said celebrations of the day kept PTDC committed towards its goal to promote and develop tourism industry in Pakistan.
“We celebrated the World Tourism Day with the rest of the world as a nation proud of its glorious past and custodian of a bright future,” he said.
“Presently the PTDC was devoted towards making Pakistan a tourists haven,” he added.
The PTDC had planned to inaugurate City Tour Bus Service to promote tourism, he said.
He said the PTDC had also introduced Pakistan Tourism Friends Club to facilitate tourists.
