ISLAMABAD:Pakistan’s top diplomat in Dubai said that Gulfood 2021, an annual food and beverage trade show where 60 Pakistani companies are participating this year, will further enhance his country’s ties with the UAE.
A total of 2,500 companies from 85 countries are part of the two day exhibition this year at the Dubai World Trade Centre, which kicked off on Sunday, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
The event was last held in February 2020 just before coronavirus related restrictions and lockdowns.
“This event will further enhance bilateral trade between two countries and also provide a platform to connect with buyers from other countries,” Ahmed Amjad Ali, Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai said, after inaugurating Pakistan Pavilion at the 26th edition of the exhibition.
“After almost a year of COVID-19 pandemic, the opening of Gulfood 2021 is good news for world trade in general and food industry in particular,” Ali said, and added that after a slow year for world economies, the exhibition was a commendable step.
Last year, global demand for luxury food and beverage took a plunge with thousands of restaurants shuttered down around the world.
Regarding trade with the UAE in the food sector, the Consul General said the industry already contributed almost 20 percent of Pakistan’s exports to the UAE. He added Gulfood would further enhance this bilateral trade and provide a platform for buyers to connect from around the world.
