KARACHI: Experts taking strong exception to frequent instances of fire outbreak reportedly caused due to short circuits have suggested proper maintenance of electricity supply system at each and every level.
Participating in a panel discussion organized by Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) in collaboration with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) here Thursday said these incidents are emerging as a leading menace in the country and warrant immediate intervention.
Panelists including Engr. Tahir Saleem, Roland Desouza, Wali Raimoon, Irfan Ahmed, Zia Zubairi alongwith Nespak, K-Electric and Sindh Electric Inspectorate representatives said loss of precious human lives and property demanded immediate measures to curtails the unfortunate instances.
The panelists said the issue is prevalent all across the country, however, Karachi was witnessed to have been exposed to many of such unfortunate incidents recently.
It was agreed that the government itself as well as all concerned stakeholders must take upon the responsibility to curtail such incidents.
They suggested regular inspection of all industrial units, residential blocks and places frequented by public to plug loopholes leading to serious repercussions.
The panelists said stringent action must be taken against organizations and institutions failing to comply with safety a security standards.
Director, Usman Institute of Technology, Zahir A. Syed said the event was organized to reach out to resolve difficulties by employing latest technology.
“We convened this panel discussion so experts from various prominent organizations could deliberate and advise a way forward”,he said.
