KARACHI: Newszine 16- the magazine of the first year students of Karachi University’s Mass Communication Department was launched at the campus on Wednesday.
Eminent journalist and intellectual Mahmood Sham lauded the efforts of the youngsters and called for duly encouraging them.
The teachers’ guidance was key to promote innovative skills among students, remarked Prof. Dr. Ahmed Qadri, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Karachi.
He also asked the students of other classes to get involved in such activities in order to promote healthy competition among the students.
KU’s Mass Communication Department’s first year students published this magazine whose editor is Dr. Asmat Ara.
A former chairman, Department of Mass Communication KU Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed Zubairi appreciated the endeavor and said that the students have covered each and every aspect of country’s issues in this magazine and they have worked well to make it a diversified magazine with an innovative title page.
Mehmood Sham also gave a lecture on the history of magazines.
Director Women Media Center Fauzia Shaheen encouraged the students saying that their responsibilities have increased and they have to work very hard till their final year and do practical efforts in this regard.
Journalist Ghous Mohiddin also lauded the efforts of the students and termed the current era as that of specialization, asking the students to focus on specialized journalism.
Chairperson Mass Communication Department Prof. Dr. Seemi Naghmana Tahir also commended the efforts of the students and said she was happy that Dr. Asmat Ara has assigned them this task which has given them a great opportunity to learn practical skills of journalism.
She also advised the students to adopt critical approach in journalism.
Editor of the magazine Dr. Asmat Ara discussed the motives and objectives of the magazine and lauded the students for their hard work in this regard.
