Main 9th Muharram procession takes out from Nishtar Park, culminates Kharadar

KARACHI: Thousands of mourners from across Karachi joined Saturday the main 9th Muharram procession at Nishtar Park to pay respect for the sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his companions at the battle field of Karbala more than 1400 years ago.

It was since morning that people in small to medium sized groups had started converging at Nishtar Park to attend the Majlis (sermon) and join the main procession that started moving as per schedule at 11 O’clock in a most orgnaized manner with scouts, representing different from communities escorting the procession.

Extra ordinary security measures are also in place with cell phone services suspended for around 14 hours and heavy deployment of personnel belonging to law enforcing agencies, inluding Pakistan Rangers – Sindh and Karachi Police.

All high rises buildings located on the route of Main Muharram procession are being manned by cops, including snippers on the roof tops keeping strict vigil so as to avert any untoward incident.

As per directives of Sindh police chief 9912 police personnel are on duty for security of not only the participants of the processions but also the citizens in general.

Karachi like any other city in the country can be witnessed dotted with elaborately decorated with children aged between eight to 15 years being the most active volunteers offering water and Sherbet to all passers-by.

There is also a sizable number of people attending an estimated 6458 majalis and meetings arranged in different parts of the metropolis during 9th and 10th Muharram. These are besides 655 small to medium sized processions of mourners.

The main procession that will stop for a while at Numaish, on main M.A.Jinnah for offering Zuhrain as per tradition, will continue to be joined by other processions on its way to Kharadar and will disperse after another majlis followed by Maghribain prayers.

The main procession route that has otherwise been sealed to facilitate the mourners and ensure smooth flow is yet not deprived of traditional hustle as numerous medical camps, sabeels and stalls are there to provide any needed assistance to the participants.

Aerial surveillance has been further arranged for the occasion ensuring that security is not compromised in any manner or at any level.
