KARACHI:A sum of Rs. 10 million would be saved annually by installing water meters, a spokesman of the University of Karachi said on Thursday.
He said that the institution has initiated the installation of water meters in the campus and in the first phase, three meters were installed recently due to which KU managed to save 5.3 million Rupees this month while 10 million rupees are expected to be saved monthly after the installation of three more meters making it a total of six meters in the campus.
It was pointed out that this issue was not dealt with seriousness in past therefore KU has to pay the bills of additional 10 million rupees monthly.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ajmal Khan expressed concern on this issue soon after assuming the charge of the Vice Chancellor.
He took personal interest to resolve this issue and issued directives to install meters and its positive outcomes are now evident.
Moreover, KU was paying around 2.8 million rupees to the employees of Evening program in the varsity. The Vice Chancellor took notice of this and additional employees were sacked, therefore now this expense has been curtailed to 1.4 million.
