Two cops, boy shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: Two policemen and a passer-by boy were killed in a drive-by shooting in Karachi on Friday evening, officials said.

The gun attack took place in Awami Colony area of Korangi Town.

DIG CIA Dr Jamil told media that assailants riding motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire on a police mobile near Korangi Dar ul Aloom, killing tow cops and injuring a passer-by boy.

The injured boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

The martyred cops who were shot in the head and chest were identified as Babar and Qamar. The police mobile, according to sources, was one a routine patrol.

Taking notice of the attack, Additional IG Ghulam Qadir asked SP Korangi to submit a report.

According to counter-terrorism officials, banned outfits operating in the city could be behind the attack.

It is the second major attack on police team in Karachi. In a similar attack last month, four cops were killed as they were breaking their fast at a hotel in Karachi.
