Less use of anti-fungus poisons good for rice

LAHORE: The Punjab agriculture department has started an awareness campaign regarding the use of agricultural poisons and rice import companies have appreciated it.

A spokesman for the Punjab Agriculture department disclosed this here on Wednesday.

He said Pakistani Basmati rice was famous due to its quality and aroma, and rice growers by suspending the use of anti-fungus poisons like Carbendazim, Thiophanate methyl and others the demand of rice could be enhanced.

The spokesman said that poisons were used very less on rice across the world and now the work on this strategy was underway in the country as well.

He added due to decrease in demand of Indian rice the export of Pakistan’s rice would increase.
