LAHORE:The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notices to the Punjab government and others for Dec 26 on a petition challenging the decision to lift ban on Basant celebrations.
The single-member bench comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan heard the petition, filed by one Irfan Wattoo.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel, Safdar Shaheen Pirzada, questioned the government decision to lift ban on Basant, submitting that the restriction was imposed after the festive activity turned into a fatal sports.
He submitted that it was unconstitutional to allow such an activity that results in the loss of human lives. He pleaded with the court to set aside the decision, being illegal, and requested for a stay order in this regard.
However, the court declined the request for a stay order but issued notices to the provincial government and others for Dec 26, seeking reply from them.
